Merch! Merch! Merch!

FIRST / BACK / NEXT

Introducing THE FLABMAN AND TWIG ACTION HERO PLAYSET! Flabman and Twig in the palm of your hand! You can make them walk! You can make them talk! You can make them punch people! Need socks? THEY ARE SOCKS! Worried about wearing mismatching socks? BUY ANOTHER SET!!!!! Complete your wardrobe today! Did I mention all this for the low low cost of $19.99!!!!

On a more serious note, I was playing a video game the other day and I realized when you buy a video game you don't even get the full game anymore. There is always downloadable content that comes out later or only if you pre order at Gamestop. Sometimes for an additional cost. What? And it seems like there is a trend where you can pay real money for fake in game money or objects. That's been around for a long time but before it seemed like more of a World of Warcraft black market type thing but i'm noticing more and more that video game companies are embracing this concept as a way to make more money. This may be old news, but I think it's silly. Let's go back to cartridges...

The Crime Hat

FIRST / BACK / NEXT

The ending to this story reminds me of how my university put a ban on sidewalk chalk. I think the reasoning was they didn't want the campus looking "cluttered." So where am I supposed to play Hopscotch now? It was a pretty ridiculous issue at the time and something that shouldn't have been a big deal but was. It only takes one rain storm to wash off! But perhaps they felt that sidewalk chalk is a gateway drug to spray paint graffiti. Who knows? But I had a few friends who were upset because they couldn't pretend to be Banksy and the world was spared from their silliness that day...

This week we introduce The Crime Hat! Every once and a while our heroes will draw a crime from the hat and they will attempt to stop whatever they pick out. More realistically though (since they can't do anything without me drawing them) I think I'll start drawing crimes from a hat and basing my strip on chance. Sometimes you have to roll the dice a bit and who knows what the Crime Hat will choose as the comic strip of the week! Vegas style baby!

Why Hello Mr. Pouty Pants! Is My Sidekick Home?

FIRST / BACK / NEXT

This week we get the exciting conclusion to our duo's battle with El Diablo Hermoso. Rest assured we will see more of him in the future. I have to say I'm finding that Tuesdays tend to be my most productive days comic wise. Is it because it's a last minute thing? Not really. Well, kind of... I spent most of the week thinking about how I was going to conclude this story arc. I have most of the stories planned out well in advance, about 4 weeks worth of comics at a time so I don't run out of stories, but figuring out how to execute this comic was a little tricky this time. This comic only ended up taking a few hours to make though! That's sketch, inks, paints, and text started at noon and finished before 6PM. It usually takes longer so that's pretty neat.

I took a screenwriting class before I graduated from college and for our final project we had to write an Act I of a full length film. It was pretty fun. I wrote an animated detective film that was kind of like a reverse Scooby Doo, where instead of four kids and their pet solving mysteries it's four pets and a kid. And it's supposed to be the kind of comedy you would see on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block of programming. It was a fun project but we only wrote Act I. So it's unfinished. I'm thinking about finishing it but I'm also thinking about just animating the first scene of it, make a little pilot, and treat it like a T.V. show.

I think that's my next project or at least I want it to be. I'd have to do all the voices myself, which is fine I guess. I always think i'm good at doing different voices but then when I go to record them they all just sound like me... Weak! But we'll see. Stay tuned...

For Food and Honor!

FIRST / BACK / NEXT

So this week we get to see Flabman and Twig in action and we get to see them in ATTACK MODE!!! Yes, ATTACK MODE is as ridiculous as it looks and yes it is about 00.1% effective in battle and 99.9% waste of calories.

When I originally conceived this comic I always pictured Flabman wielding Twig like a sword and that is just how they would fight. A fat superhero and his skinny sidekick are not particularly threatening to anybody. Their power has to come from the heroes working as a single unit. But once it was drawn out I realized how ridiculous this concept is. There is no situation where they would use ATTACK MODE and have Twig walk away without getting hurt. Certainly not after a sword fight with El Diablo Hermoso. And of course, Flabman would have to be completely oblivious to the fact that he is causing more harm than good.

But that's what I find the most funny about it and we will see a lot more variations of ATTACK MODE in the future. Sorry Twig...
